Betty (played by Lili) was left in a strange position in the final episode of Riverdale’s second season.
After finding out that her father Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro) was the Black Hood, Betty was forced to out Chic (Hart Denton) as his fake brother.
This resulted in Betty watching the serial killer chasing down who she thought was her brother to kill him.
As if this trauma wasn’t enough for her, Betty was also subjected to seeing her boyfriend, Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) almost beaten to death.
After being tricked by Penny Peabody (Brit Morgan) and the Ghoulies, Jughead was attacked for scarring Penny earlier on in the season.
Although Jughead ultimately survived the onslaught of the Ghoulies, he was hospitalised.
When Betty reunited with the newly appointed Serpent leader, he had an important question for her.
He asked: “Will you be my serpent queen?”
After accepting the offer, Betty’s life is back on track now that her psychotic father is supposedly out of the picture, and she has rekindled her relationship with Jughead.
The finale left fans convinced that Betty will return to the show for its third season, and now actor Lili has confirmed the beginning of the show’s filming.
In a cryptic Instagram post, Lili posted an image of Kermit the Frog, with the caption: “First day of season three.”
With season three’s filming now begun, fans may see a few more glimpses of the show as it progresses.
Lili’s announcement follows her comments to Harper’s Bazaar about Betty’s upcoming storyline.
She explained: “In the season finale, when you saw Betty and Jughead in bed together, she’s smiling when he says, ‘Will you be my serpent queen?’
“[Aguirre-Sacasa, Riverdale writer] told me, ‘When I watched that scene and I saw Betty smile, it made me want more of that.’”
Lili went on to say that she hopes Betty will continue to see some good things come her way in the show.
She added: “I think the girl deserves a break.”
Could this mean Betty and Jughead will see a relatively peaceful season ahead of them?
Or will Jughead see even more gang action after becoming the leader of the Southside Serpents?
Riverdale season 3 will return to The CW 9 October, while seasons one and two are available on Netflix now.
