In a devastating turn of events, Shakil Kazemi (played by Shaheen Jafargholi) was stabbed earlier in the week and died on Friday’s episode of BBC soap EastEnders.
Shakil had tried to get help for him and injured friend Keegan Baker (Zack Morris) as he staggered across the Square in search of aid.
He tried to signal to Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) that he needed help, but the barman thought the teenager was just drunk.
Later, when Mick found Keegan in the alleyway next to the pub he finally connected the dots and knew Shakil was injured too but it was too late.
The father-of-four is gripped by guilt in the wake of Shakil’s death as he struggles to come to terms with what happens.
New spoilers pictures released by the soap ahead of the upcoming episode show Mick opening up to Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley), mother to Keegan.
He opens up to Karen in the laundrette and she in turn comforts him.
Carmel (Bonnie Langford) can also be seen in one of the shots as the bereaved mother reels following the loss of her son.
Mick will apologise to her for not finding Shakil in what will be some incredibly moving scenes set to air next Thursday.
Meanwhile, the relationship between Karen and Carmel looks set to be a difficult one.
Karen star Lorraine has opened up about what viewers can expect in upcoming scenes between the pair.
The actress divulged to Metro.co.uk: “Bonnie and I have done a few scenes and they’re really sad. One mother has had the worst possible loss and one is relieved that her boy survived.
“As you can imagine, Karen is feeling guilty but also glad that her son is alive.
“There is a lot of anger from Carmel – you will have to wait and see how it plays out but the situation is just awful.”
On top of that, Lorraine hinted that Keegan could be out to seek some vengeance on Shakil’s killers by taking matters into his own hands.
She said: “I think Karen is going to be really worried about what Keegan might do and whether he is going to seek revenge.
“Shakil was his best friend – so will this make him paranoid and go out for revenge?
“Karen goes through all of the natural things a mother would feel – she’s just worried about her son.
“It’s a big thing to happen in a young boy’s life – how can you move on from something like that? You can’t possibly imagine.”
EastEnders continues tomorrow at 8pm on BBC One.
