Sunday Brunch: Simon Rimmer dodges trouble as he confesses 'surefire' way to get axed

The 54-year-old TV chef was careful not to let things get uncomfortable during the live broadcast after The One Show presenter Alex, 41, joined him and co-host Tim Lovejoy, 50, to attempt a recipe for a cauliflower cheese tars.

Simon Rimmer began by teaching the BBC favourite how to make pastry, talking her through the specific motions so as not to overwork the mixture.

“Always keep your thumb on top,” he explained, adding: “See how much better that feels?”

“Feels lovely,” the brunette beauty replied. “I feel like I’m in Ghost, you know, where they do that pottery bit?”

She referenced the famously saucy scene in the 1990 romantic thriller where Patrick Swayze’s character sits behind Demi Moore to seductively interlace their fingers whilst working wet clay on a pottery wheel.

“Simon you need to come in behind her and show her how to do it,” Tim joked.

The Channel 4 presenter seemed unconvinced, however, quickly shutting down the idea.

“I think in today’s day and age you’re not allowed to do that,” he quipped.

“I think that would be a surefire way for this to be my last show,” the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant insisted.

He then moved swiftly on, changing the subject back to to recipe.

The method included blind baking the tart case before adding a mixture of creme fraiche, cheeses, egg and mustard as well as delicious-looking roasted cauliflower.

He then garnished the dish with a dollop of tomato chutney.

Alex was among a stellar line-up of guests on today’s show, including Kathleen Turner, Tom Rosenthal and Game of Thrones star Michiel Huisman.

The One Show star welcomed her first child with her husband Charlie Thomson last year.

Alex Jones recently revealed that her husband called her ‘less fun’ after the birth of their son.

Opening up about how she had taken his remark, she told OK! Magazine: “Not well at the time.

“In hindsight, I could have done better. I should have sucked it up and talked about it.

“Suddenly you’ve got the responsibility of a small human, you’re trying to do a full-time job and I’m really sorry if I forgot to drink wine until 4am,” she added.

“You take all that for granted before.

“But since then we’ve worked out ways of having nights on our own to strike that balance,” Alex explained.

Sunday Brunch continues next Sunday at 9.30am on Channel 4.
