Emmerdale spoilers: Ross Barton sparks uproar as fans predict THIS Rebecca White twist

Emmerdale fan-favourite Ross (played by Michael Parr) has been struggling on the ITV soap ever since he suffered from his horrifying acid attack.

Yet tonight the former mechanic finally seemed to turn a corner as he wrote his statement for the police.

Tentatively attempting to get back to normality, Ross decided to go for a drink with his brother Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) but it ended badly.

One group of girls decided to play a sick prank on the recovering character with a bet on who could have a date with him.

Yet while Ross was unaware that the flirtation was merely a joke, Rebecca (Emily Head) heard the friends making fun of him when she should have been tending the bar.

Horrified and unable to prevent herself from getting involved, Rebecca entered into a shouting match with the punters.

Rather than praise the mother-of-one however, Ross suddenly emerged from the bathroom enraged at her behaviour.

Trying to explain what happened, Rebecca insisted: “I was just defending you.”

“Yeah loudly,” a furious Ross replied. “At least she was mocking me quietly.”

Gobsmacked by her friend’s reaction, Rebecca said feebly: “I’m sorry I was just trying to help.”

Things got worse as Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) suddenly appeared in a panic that no one was watching the bar.

With the echo of Charity demanding to know what had happened, Ross blamed Rebecca for the situation.

“Don’t look at me you don’t need my permission to start shooting your mouth off,” he spat.

Amid the drama, suspicious fans were confused at the sudden screen-time between Ross and Rebecca, who have barely spoken in months.

It makes sense that the pair could find common ground as Rebecca has suffered from her own torment this year following the horrific car accident caused by her nephew Lachlan White (Thomas Atkinson).

The ordeal left her sister Chrissie (Louise Marwood) and father Lawrence White (John Bowe) but Rebecca has brain damage and memory loss from the accident.

But is there another reason for her and Ross’ scenes? Viewers discussed the development on Twitter.

One person said: “I feel like this interaction with Ross and Rebecca has some other underlying reason behind it #Emmerdale.”

“There’s something about Ross and Rebecca. Definitely some unfinished business there! #Emmerdale,” another fan wrote.

A third shared their worries about the pair rekindling their former relationship, saying: “Not that I even care(which I absolutely do not) but if ‘they’ put Ross and Rebecca back together… I swear… wtf was the even point of 2017?…”

Emmerdale continues tomorrow at 7pm on ITV.
