As filming for the eighth series of Game of Thrones continues, fans have begun to speculate about the fate of their favourite characters.
One viewer believes there is a clue, which reveals that Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) and four others will definitely survive.
During a discussion over what Sam Tarly (John Bradley) will do with the Valyrian steel sword he stole from his home, Horn Hill, the fan pointed out that it is likely those in possession of the metal, which can kill White Walkers, will not be killed off.
The fan noted that the known Valyrian steel swords in the series are Oathkeeper, Widows Wail, Longclaw, Catspaw and Heartsbane.
They went on to note those in possession of the weapons are Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Jon, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) and Sam.
“The five who hold the steel are pretty much the main characters of the series is you take out Dany, Tyrion and Sansa,” they wrote on Reddit. “Bran too, but Bran is the one controlling things so he gets by.
“Now, I am only speculating and never gave this too much thought before but the character holding the Valyrian steel at this late stage all strike me as some of the most important characters there are and this could be by design.
“Maybe these characters are survivors, maybe they are the ones who kill a White Walker, maybe they are the ones to die but a safer bet is that each character will have a big role to play against the Night King.”
It comes as the cast of Game of Thrones have dropped several hints about what fans can expect from the season eight finale.
Nathalie Emmanuel, who stars as Daenerys’ scribe Missandei, recently assured fans it will “not be rushed”.
“It definitely will not be a rushed conclusion,” she told Metro.
“They’ve taken the exact number of hours to tell the story they want to tell and it will be brilliant.
“[Show bosses] will never leave the fans unsatisfied, they won’t leave the fans left short, it will go over and above the fans expectations as they do every season.”
Meanwhile, one fan revealed that they had uncovered a White Walker plot hole.
In season one, Alliser Thorne (Owen Teale) was sent to King’s Landing with the dead hand of a wight which attacked Lord Commander Mormont (James Cosmo) at The Wall.
But, he was dismissed by Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and told that the threat of the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) was not important.
The storyline was never revisited in later seasons despite the fact that it could have meant that the army of the dead were dealt with much sooner.
Game of Thrones is expected to return to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019.
