Where is The Good Karma Hospital 2018 set?

Series two of the Amanda Redman show will be kicking off tonight (Sunday, March 18) on ITV at 9pm.

The latest run of the sun-soaked programme will have a total of six episodes – the same as series one.

The Good Karma Hospital is set in South India in the fictional town of Barco and the real-life area of Kerala.

Series two will also see some of the action taking place in a nearby city after Dr Ruby Walker (played by Amrita Acharia) moves into an apartment in an urban setting.

WHEN DOES THE GOOD KARMA HOSPITAL 2018 START?

She was previously living in a flat near the hospital, which was more rural and close to paddy fields.

Speaking about the setting of series two, production designer Debbie Burton explained: “I felt that this year I wanted to expose a bit more of the reality of India and possibly a bit more of the grit and the rawness in a culture, which we don’t necessarily have at home.

“The colours, the textures, the smoke, the atmosphere, those things that happen in real life like four children on a bike that we sanitise down in the UK and don’t allow that whereas in India it is a lot more of a raw environment.”

Where is The Good Karma Hospital 2018 filmed?

The Good Karma Hospital is actually filmed in neighbouring Sri Lanka, specifically in Unawatuna in the south of the country.

Scenes have been filmed at Thiranagama Golden Beach Restaurant as well as other locations in the Galle region.

Actress Acharia of HBO’s Game of Thrones fame said: “We filmed at a beautiful tea plantation outside Galle. It was so nice to see something that’s different from the coastal locations we were working at.

“It was quite a mountainous place with a lot of jungle and a lot of monkeys.

“We filmed in an actual working tea plantation so we saw the factory and how the tea is made. Along with the heat and humidity the smell was incredibly intoxicating.

She added: “It was fantastic to be in a different location and that’s the beauty of this series; it allows the team the freedom to go beyond the hospital walls and show off different parts of the culture and environment.”

What will happen in The Good Karma Hospital 2018?

If series one served as an introduction to the staff of The Good Karma Hospital and all the challenges it faced, then the second outing goes even further.

Series two will pick up a year after the first run as Ruby has finally settled into her home in Kerala.

The medical team at the hospital will face new challenges as they treat more patients.

According to a plot summary from ITV: “Series two will see Ruby deepen her understanding of India, her new home.

“An outreach clinic to a tea plantation will allow Ruby to make surprising connections to her Indian family and to understand where she’s from and where it is that she belongs.

“Ruby will also move closer to Dr Gabriel Varma (James Krishna Floyd). Their sparky working relationship becoming something more. But as they navigate their changing feelings for each other, Ruby must decide if she’s ready for a new romance.

“Lydia’s relationship with Greg (Neil Morrissey) hits a rocky patch when Greg jokingly mentions marriage and Lydia’s reaction suggests they might not be in the same place. It leaves them wondering what the future holds for them.”

The Good Karma Hospital series 2 starts tonight on ITV at 9pm.
