Walford’s Dr. Trueman (played by Nicholas) was last seen in EastEnders in 2014 when he returned to the Square to see his father, Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker).
After Patrick suffered a stroke, Anthony came to his aid, leaving his home in Scotland to assist his father.
However, despite feeling obligated to take care of the B&B owner, Anthony fled Albert Square, claiming that he couldn’t forgive Patrick for not being around during his childhood.
Before his exit, he wrote Denise Fox (Diane Parish) a £2000 cheque to help look after Patrick.
Prior to that, Anthony left the show in 2003 after he caused the death of a pregnant patient.
But could Anthony be set to return? Nicholas recently spoke to OK! where he hinted that the doctor still has many unfinished plot lines.
He said: “I went back in 2014 for one episode and things were left up in the air with Patrick and the way Anthony behaved, so there’s stories to tell.
“[The producers] know where to find me.
“If they do reach out to me they will have an incredible storyline to put me in to.
“There’s been a lot of changes for Anthony and the square has completely changed. He’s got some bridges to build after the way he behaved last time he was there.”
Anthony is an old flame to both Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) and her mother Kat (Jessie Wallace), who is returning to the BBC soap next week.
Nicholas continued: “If Anthony does come back and Kat’s around, then there’s dialogue there.
“I would love to have another crack at him and find out the complexity of who he is.
“I am definitely open to returning – he’s still alive and around, and lives in Glasgow apparently
“He’s only about four or five hours drive away, so you never know.”
EastEnders continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on BBC One.
