Game of Thrones season 8 news: The Night King's big secret EXPOSED? Who is he?

It is undeniable that the identity of the Night King will be a huge plot point of the eighth and final series of Game of Thrones, but it is still unclear who it could be.

While there have been plenty of convincing theories doing the rounds about his identity, including the ever-popular suggestion that he is Bran Stark (played by Isaac Hempstead Wright), the newest one from Blasting News is very convincing.

It goes that Azor Ahai, a legendary figure within the books, was able to end the first Long Night by plunging a sword into the chest of his wife, Nissa Nissa.

He stopped an attack from White Walkers with his sword, Lightbringer, thousands of years ago, and according to followers of The Lord of Light, he will be back.

However, it may be that Azor never went away, and he was instead transformed.

It could be that when he stabbed his wife, she turned into a White Walker which allowed him to forge the magical weapon which defeated the first Night King.

His wife and the rest of the undead were then sent up North and the Wall was erected to stop any further attacks.

Determined to defend others, Azor joined the Night’s Watch ascending to the rank of Lord Commander.

However, one day he saw his wife from afar, and still being in love with her he turned into a White Walker himself so they could be together, and he became the Night King and she the Night Queen.

While they ruled for some time, The King in the North and the King beyond the Wall captured Nissa Nissa and she has been held captive in the Crypts of Winterfell ever since.

Fast-forward to where the series is now, the Night King is out for revenge and is planning on enacting it with his huge army of White Walkers, and an undead dragon thanks to Daenerys (Emilia Clarke).

The theory continues to detail that he will only be defeated when Jon Snow (Kit Harington) stabs Daenerys in the chest, turning her into a White Walker.

While it may sound like a stretch at first, it’s definitely possible that it could be Azor given the amount of twists and turns the plot takes.

With only one season left to wrap up the fantasy epic, it is likely that viewers will be in for some big surprises.

Fans will just have to wait and see if this is one of them.

Game of Thrones returns to Sky Atlantic in 2019.
