Winterwatch: Martin Hughes-Games left screaming after BBC bird terror ’He’s drawn blood’

For a second night, Martin and co-star Chris Packham continued their challenge titled Game of Crows, a nod to Game of Thrones, on the BBC Two programme.

Two breeds of black birds once again went head-to-head in order to see which one was the smartest.

This time, their challenge was called Ice and Stone and challenged a raven against a crow to see which was quicker to get to food encapsulated in ice.

However, Bran the Raven struggled to crack his ice and knocked it off the table twice.

As Chris leapt out of the way, Martin decided to pick it up and cup it in his hand.

Bran began to peck at the ice while it was still in Martin’s hands, causing the presenter to yelp in pain.

As Chris chuckled, Martin gasped: “Oh! He’s drawn blood! He really has drawn blood. Cor that bill really hurts!”

Chris added: “That’s really Game of Thrones that is mate! That’s Game of Thrones now.”

Martin continued: “That’s Game of Thrones stuff that isn’t it really?”

Viewers instantly took to social media, with one tweeting: “Haha Bran. Poor Martin #Winterwatch.”

“#GameOfCrows is great #WinterWatch,” posted another.

A third added: “New favourite tv show is #GameOfCrows on @BBCSpringwatch #winterwatch.”

“Please @BBCWinterwatch make more #GameofCrows episodes!! #Winterwatch,” wrote a fourth.

A fifth gushed: “I love #Winterwatch SO. MUCH.”

“Game of Crows is the best thing ever #TeamRaven #Winterwatch,” said another.

It comes after yesterday’s episode saw 61-year-old Martin sporting fishing overalls.

Chris took the opportunity to laugh at his choice of clothing, jibing: “Is the incontinence reaching it’s zenith, Martin?”

Martin jokingly snapped back: “We’re all getting older, mate.”

Winterwatch continues tomorrow on at 8pm.
