The Chase fans heartbroken as player does the unthinkable to lose £50K 'Oh John!'

John, a church minister from Liverpool and fishing fan, was the final member of his team to take on The Chaser  in today’s episode.

Following the first member of the team getting caught, the pressure was on for everyone to gain as much money as possible in the Cash Builder round.

Unfortunately John struggled in his Cash Builder round, and only got one answer correct, leaving him with just £1,000 to put on the table for The Chaser.

After this performance, The Chaser offered him a choice between minus £1,000, £1,000, and £50,000.

His teammates called the minus £1,000 offer “an insult”.

When it came to the decision, John chose to go for the £50,000 offer, saying: “Sometimes I lose fish, sometimes I land them. I’m taking the 50,” leaving his teammates shocked.

Even presenter Bradley Walsh shook his hand, beaming: “I love it!”

Viewers were left stunned at this decision, but ultimately were behind John’s boldness, one viewer tweeting: “50k, Good Luck John #thechase #gangofchase”, which was followed by: “When you get 1,000 you may as well go high good luck fella #thechase”.

With the viewers behind him, John seemed to take on The Chaser with ease, getting the first and third question correct, with The Chaser getting the first wrong, leaving him in a good position.

But it all came crashing down on John’s sixth question when he was faced with a question concerning who Kanye West once described as beautiful: Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, or Taylor Swift?

Bradley hinted: “He’s married to one of these, you know.”

John chose Beyoncé as his answer and viewers lost all hope, moaning: “Oh john #TheChase”, “Unlucky John #TheChase,” and: “John redeemed himself a bit after his shambles of a cash builder but he’s still gone #TheChase.”

The Chaser got this question correct, and John was caught, leaving the team with two members for the Final Chase.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
