Everything Steven Soderbergh Watched and Read in 2017, Including Nine Viewings of ‘Ocean’s 8’

Steven Soderbergh's 2017 List

At the beginning of every year, director Steven Soderbergh releases a list of everything he watched and read the previous year. As far as lists go, Soderbergh’s are always fascinating, particularly because he tends to rewatch specific titles over and over again. His new list for 2017 is here, and reveals that so far he’s watched Ocean’s 8, the reboot of his Ocean’s 11 franchise, nine times already. Check out Steven Soderbergh’s 2017 list below.

If you’ve ever wondered about the movie-watching and reading habits of filmmakers, look no further than Steven Soderbergh’s annual list. Soderbergh, the filmmaker behind TrafficHaywireLogan Lucky and the Ocean’s 11 films, has an annual tradition of uploading a list to his website that reflects everything he watched or read through the previous year.

Soderbergh’s latest list, reflecting what he read and watched in 2017, is a doozy. There’s a lot to unpack here: the filmmaker took in the gonzo 2017 film A Cure For Wellness in June; on Christmas day, he treated himself to a triple feature of Memento, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Vertigo; and on June 26, he rewatched the phenomenal eighth episode of the new Twin Peaks, which lead him to add the only annotation on the list: “(episode 8 again—wow!)”.

The list also offers some insight into films Soderbergh is associated with: on June 1, he lists that he’s begun production on his new film Unsane, and then proceeds to list Unsane five more times – likely indicating he was rewatching the footage he shot on those particular days. Also worth noting: Soderbergh lists the upcoming Ocean’s 8 – a reboot/sequel to his own Ocean’s 11 franchise – a total of nine times. Check out the full list below.
