The actress hinted that the teen drama will focus more on Betty’s mental health issues as her brother Chic (played by Hart Denton) finally makes an appearance.
“When Betty digs her nails into her hands, it’s kind of when things are happening with her family,” she explained.
“That’s her trigger, whether it be her mother, her brother or Poll. I think that’s something to keep in mind.”
Lili went on to add that Betty is eager to find out if Chic has the struggles that she does.
“She’s very curious to see if he has that darkness inside him as well,” she confessed to Glamour magazine.
“There might be some sister/brother bonding over mental health issues.”
But fans won’t just see Betty struggling with the arrival of Chic as she hinted at friction with Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes).
While viewers may expect them to come to blow over Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Lili revealed it will be more to do with family politics.
“There is definitely challenges to come in Betty and Veronica’s frienship, and it’s a result of their parents, to be honest,” she spilled.
“It’s like, how do they navigate their friendship with the parent that they have? And if their parents are at war, does that mean the kids are at war? That becomes very, very heavy in the latter half.”
Riverdale season 2 continues January 18 on Netflix.
