Last night’s explosive Christmas episode saw Tanya unexpectedly return to confront ex-husband Max Branning (played by Jake Wood).
It all got too much for Max who threatened to jump from the roof of the Queen Vic before their daughters Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) and Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) accidentally fell off when trying to talk him down.
Horrified, Tanya watched the scenes unfold as both her daughters were last seen laying lifelessly on the pavement below.
Many fans of the BBC soap were pleased to see Jo, 40, back on their screens and were keen to know if the Branning family tragedy meant Tanya would be sticking around.
The actress took to Twitter to thank her well-wishers and comment on the speculation.
“Merry Christmas to all! Judging by my timeline it was worth all the Saturdays in the rain. Thanks for all the love guys,” she wrote.
“It’s only a visit but stay with us….. are my girls alright? #EastEnders.”
Jo confirmed her stay in Albert Square would only be a short one, to the disappointment of many viewers.
“You were amazing tonight, I loved your performance! Wish you were back full time #Eastenders!,” one fan enthused.
“Please just return full time? ‘Enders needs you,” another pleaded.
While Tanya won’t be around for long, as the dramatic aftermath of last night’s events begin to unfold, it is certain that Jo will be involved in some gripping scenes.
EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
