A 50p coin minted to celebrate Beatrix Potter and has a rare printing mistake is on sale for £4,050 on eBay.
A Peter Rabbit coin was created in the range, but this coin features popular character Tom Kitten.
The coin is the 2017 Tom Kitten Silver Proof 50p coin and it also comes with a certificate of authenticity.
What makes this coin so special and valuable, according to the seller, is a rare minting error called a mistrike.
Royal Mint celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter with four coloured 50p coins in 2016.
The last coin, the Tom Kitten coin, was released in 2017.
The seller said of the coin: “Beatrix Potter’s mischievous Tom Kitten appears on the reverse of this coloured silver proof coin.
“This is the second series of Beatrix Potter coins and only 40,000 of these coins have been produced.” [sic]
Speaking of the printing error, they added: “This is a one-of-a-kind error in the minting process.
“The printed component on the coin has been rotated to the right, you can see from Tom’s ears that the colour has spilled over to the right of his ears (and also his face).
“This coin is a rarity, that collectors would have a keen interest in.
“The fact that it’s a silver proof coin, and it left the Royal Mint with the error, this makes this coin a unique, one of a kind production.” [sic]
The coin comes in a clear acrylic case, which has never been opened.
Another Beatrix Potter coin is selling for up to £5,000 on eBay.
This coin features a design with bold lettering of the author’s name.
It also has the the dates on which the author was born and died, 1866 and 1943.
