WARNING: This article contains spoilers from 13 Reasons Why season 1
Season one of 13 Reasons Why saw Clay Jensen (played by Dylan Minnette) re-connecting with his old friend Skye Miller (Sosie Bacon) after the pair became distant during high school.
Towards the end of the Netflix teen drama, Clay approached Skye and had a short heart-to-heart with her in a bid to stop her from following a similar path to his friend Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford).
Over the course of the season, Clay and Skye had a series of encounters and during one such meeting viewers learnt that they were friends in middle school.
In fact, Skye even suggested that the reason they were no longer friends was because she changed her appearance to which he countered with a change in her personality.
There were also implications that Skye had feelings for Clay after she criticised him for dating Sheri Holland (Ajiona Alexus) when she saw him at coffee shop Monet’s with the popular girl.
Netflix’s second outing of 13 Reasons Why is confirmed to be released later this year with audiences learning more about the students of the fictional Liberty High.
Will Skye and Clay have a secret romance in 13 Reason Why season 2?
Some plot details have been released about season two, suggesting that Clay and Skye will eventually get together.
In an interview with Seventeen earlier this year, actor Minnette teased: “I can’t say too much, but Skye is still around and in the picture and there’s a chance that her and Clay could be friends or more.”
He went on to say: “That’s something you’ll learn pretty quickly when the season starts. I don’t want to spoil that for you, but she’s around.”
It seemed clear that Skye had a crush on Clay but it was uncertain how he felt for her, particularly due to his unrequited love for Hannah.
Clay was shown to be socially awkward and it was uncertain whether he could have feelings for Skye.
However, given the course of events in the first season, he may feel closer to Skye due to their previous friendship in middle school and also what happened to Hannah.
There was a small moment between the pair when Clay asked Skye about her tattoos and remembered the story of the purple alligator, something which she thought he’d forgotten.
Judging by the stunned looked on her face, Skye seemed surprised that Clay remembered the anecdote from their younger years and there was a hint that he did care about her despite their recent distance.
Season two will be all about recovery and healing as the high school students try to come to terms with Hannah’s suicide and feeling responsible for the teen taking her own life due to things they may have done.
Skye was seen self-harming in season one and there were suggestions that she was depressed although not to the same extent as Hannah.
So perhaps the parallels between Skye and Hannah will lead Clay back to his old friend.
It seems season two will also be about Clay’s own recovery after he was left tortured by Hannah’s death and being unable to prevent it.
Minnette also implied that Hannah would be starting to move out of the frame for Clay as the pair would share less screen time.
Instead, Hannah and her relationship with her other friends would be focused on more in the second cycle.
The actor explained: “We potentially could see more flashbacks with Clay and Hannah.
“But what I will say is that I think we learn pretty much almost everything we needed to know about what Clay and Hannah’s relationship was [in season one].”
Again, his words hint that finally Clay is letting go of the guilt he felt over Hannah’s death and his feelings for her.
13 Reasons Why season 2 will be released on Netflix later this year
