The North Korea situation is approaching its ‘witching hour’

In an interview with RiskHedge, Geopolitical Futures founder and Chairman Dr. George Friedman says Donald Trump is going to have to make the tough call on which course of action to take with North Korea.  “We’re approaching the witching hour where the president of the United States has to make a decision.”

According to Dr. Friedman, North Korea’s nuclear capability is nearing the point of no return.

“They’re approaching the boundary line between having just a nuclear program that they’re fooling around with,” explains Dr. Friedman, “to something that can become a nuclear weapon.”

The concern is that once the North Koreans have a nuclear-capable missile that can hit the United States, there will be no way to solve the dispute between North and South Korea without resorting to nuclear warfare.

“As [the North Koreans] move to that point [where they have a deliverable nuclear weapon], we may want to take them out,” Dr. Friedman stated. “But what is the point? At what point do we have to act? Because any action we take is very likely going to require at least small nuclear weapons. They have buried their facilities way underground. They have had decades of experience hardening these, and it’s not clear that a tactical military strike of the normal sort will take them out.”
