The iconic sci-fi franchise saw a hit trilogy, which ended in 2003 with The Matrix Revolutions, but is now set to make a big comeback.
The Hollywood Reporter has discovered that Warner Bros are in the early stages of rebooting The Matrix.
Superhero screenwriter Zak Penn, who wrote The Avengers with Joss Whedon, is in talks to produce a script.
However it looks like Keanu has been dropped for another Hollywood actor.
Sources have revealed that Creed star Michael B Jordan is someone the studio is looking at.
At this stage the original writers and directors, The Wachowskis, are not involved.
Last month Keanu said he would be up for The Matrix 4, but only if The Wachowskis wrote and directed.
It’s believed that Warner want to do something similar to what Disney and Lucasfilm have down with Star Wars – by introducing spin-offs to explore the franchise’s universe.
While Keanu isn’t initially involved, he could still return as Neo in some form if the studio can get around his death in The Matrix Revolutions.
After all, the film certainly did leave it open for The One to resurrect.
