There is a big three decade gap between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, so lots of room for Lucasfilm to build on the Star Wars universe’s official canon.
Of course in doing so they might take inspiration from the Expanded Universe of novels and comics written before Disney’s acquiring of the franchise’s rights in 2012.
Fans will know that in the now non-canonical stories Luke ended up marrying a woman called Mara Jade.
Now among leaks of the upcoming official novelisation of The Last Jedi is a claim revealing Luke was once married.
According to these reports, the book begins with the line: “Luke Skywalker stood in the cooling sands of Tatooine, his wife by his side.”
However another alleged leaker on Reddit alleges that this is not real, but in fact a dream; the life Luke could have led had he decided not go off on an adventure in A New Hope.
Reddit User OmNomAnor writes: “The novel starts with a dream sequence of an alternate timeline Luke.
“A Luke that dragged the droids out of the farm to give them to the Empire and lives in happy? boredom with Camie. So no wife, but this means he is not dreaming about any other wifes(?).”
Fans will know Camie, portrayed by Koo Stark, is one of Luke’s childhood friends, who appears in a deleted scene of A New Hope.
The official novelisation of Star Wars The Last Jedi is released on March 8, 2018.
