Royal wedding exclusive: Meghan Markle's second secret cake revealed by royal insider

Royal wedding celebrations like that of Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, traditionally include an iced fruit cake.

Now Express.co.uk can exclusively reveal the royal couple will have a fruit cake like the Queen, 91, and Kate Middleton, 36.

This will be in addition to the couple’s more modern wedding cake by Claire Ptak, which was announced earlier this week.

“There will be a iced fruit cake as well as the lemon and elderflower,” a palace insider revealed.

“The fruit cake will be cut into pieces and into little presentation boxes for all staff involved with the wedding.”

But not all of the leftover cake will be given away, said the insider: “The other piece they normally keep for the honeymoon,” he explained of royal wedding protocol.

It is unknown whether the couple will spend as much on their fruit cake as Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding cake did when they married in 2011.

The royal couple’s eight tier fruit cake, which was covered in icing flowers, was rumoured to cost £56,000.

The main version of Meghan and Harry’s wedding cake will be created by pastry chef and owner if Violet Cakes Claire Ptak.

The couple’s choice of a lemon elderflower cake decorated with fresh flowers was announced in a tweet by the official Kensington Palace Twitter account.

The announcement read: “For their wedding cake Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle have chosen pastry chef Claire Ptak, owner of the London-based bakery @violetcakes.

“Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Claire to create a lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavours of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers.”

Express.co.uk contacted Kensington Palace for comment, who denied the claim of a second cake. A representative said of Meghan and Harry’s wedding: “They will have one cake as per the press release.”

Some of Meghan Markle’s family have not received a royal wedding invitation, it was revealed today on Good Morning Britain.

Two of Meghan’s relatives have spoken about her upcoming nuptials, and revealed they have not been invited.

Tyler Dooley, her nephew, and Tracey Dooley, her sister-in-law, said an invite has yet to reach them, although they are not sure if one will ever be forthcoming.

Tracy said: “We’ve not got anything yet, at this point who knows. This all goes back to Meghan, ultimately it’s her day it’s her happiness and we’ve been here from the very beginning her whole life always rooting her on.”
