REVEALED: Why you should NEVER drink from a hotel glass – for this disgusting reason

  • Hotel glasses can be the dirtiest part of the room
  • Glasses are rarely fully cleaned and instead just wiped down
  • An investigation found that 11 out of 15 hotels didn’t clean or replace the glasses
  • Plastic wrapped glasses should be used instead

Hotels can often harbour a variety of germs and dirt due to the rooms rarely being properly cleaned.

It was recently revealed why guests should never go near the kettle within the hotel room.

Guests who instead choose to pour their own drink into the glasses provided may also want to avoid doing so in the future.

It all comes down to how clean they really are.

The drinking glasses provided in the room are rarely cleaned, despite what people may think.

Instead, they are simply rinsed out with water or even just sprayed with cleaning fluid or polish.

An ABC News investigation found that many posed serious health risks to guests who used them. Of the 15 hotels the investigation tested, 11 failed to clean the glasses or provide new ones.

An anonymous Quora user who worked in housekeeping confirmed the sickening problem, stating: “The drinking glasses in the rooms are not cleaned with any cleaning products.

”Housekeeping staff want to clean as much rooms as they can, so the faster you do it, the better.”

Some hotels now offer plastic cups that are wrapped up, which are a cleaner if not very environmentally friendly alternative.

Guests who really need to use a glass should wash it out themselves with hot water and soap to rid of any bacteria left from previous guests.

It isn’t the only disgusting secret to hide within a hotel room.

An increase in bed bugs is causing more hotels to suffer from the creatures, which unsuspecting holidaymakers then bring home with them.

Pest-control call outs for the bugs have risen 217 per cent since last September, with Britons not realising how easily they can travel.

To check if a hotel room has bed bugs, the first place to check is the bed and mattress.

Guests should avoid putting their suitcase on the bed in case they spread, and should instead put it on a hard surface.

Even cabinets and skirting boards could hide the critters.
