MAPPED: Safest countries in Europe to travel in 2018

Safe holiday destinations are at the top of most Britons minds when booking a trip abroad.

With political unrest and terrorist attacks, many countries may seem at risk for a holiday with the family.

Destinations further afield such as New Zealand or Canada have often been considered the safer options.

But where are the safest destinations to travel to in 2018 in Europe?

Some of the countries that are deemed safe due to a lack of attacks or social unrest are many of the Nordic countries, according to International SOS.

Denmark, Finland, Norway and Iceland all made the list, with Finland often coming out on top for safety.

They are also often said also be the happiest places, with Denmark’s welfare policies many it one where citizens are happiest.

However, there are other places in Europe that also appear to be outside of the danger that has plagued other countries in 2017.

Monaco and Switzerland, two countries known for their wealthy citizens, are also safest.

Being relatively neutral in regards to politics in Europe, they avoid any serious unrest and haven’t been targeted by a terrorist attack this year.

Perhaps surprisingly, Slovenia and Portugal also emerge as some of the safest countries in Europe.

They are also deemed some of the up and coming destinations for 2018, so it may be best to book flights to them soon.

The Global Terrorism Index 2017 found that in Europe, two countries that had no impact of terrorism included Portugal and Slovenia.

Not only that, but they are also surrounded by other countries with a low risk of terrorism, putting them in a safer position.

When travelling to Europe, it can be even cheaper when choosing an alternative city to the capital.

Britons could save over £200 by choosing a different destination in a country.
