Gary Lineker backs United to win the Champions League

06.00: Ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow (7.45pm), Gary Lineker has back United to go the distance in the competition.

The Red Devils need to avoid a 7-0 defeat to progress to the knockout stages – and once they get there Lineker thinks Jose Mourinho’s side have every chance to challenge for the title.

“Whoever Manchester United draw will give us something to talk about,” he told the Mirror.

“But it’s Jose’s team now. They are very well organised, hard to score against, they wear teams down and they have an unbelievably good home record.

“Overall they are probably just a little bit of star quality short of being Champions League winners just yet, but after Christmas it’s a knockout competition and Chelsea won it in 2012 without really playing that well, so you never know.”

Red Devils confident of singing Danny Rose

05.30: Jose Mourinho is reportedly confident of signing Tottenham’s Danny Rose for £50million.

The full-back has been out of favour at Spurs ever since he suffered a long-term knee injury in January.

United have reverted to turning winger Ashley Young into a makeshift defender this season and it has proved relatively successful as his performances earned him a call up to the national team.

But the Daily Mail report that Mourinho is sure that he will be able to lure Rose to Old Trafford in the foreseeable future.

However, his arrival could depend on the Luke Shaw first heading out.

Mourinho makes shock David De Gea claim

05.00: Jose Mourinho has joked that David De Gea is his third choice goalkeeper.

The Spaniard was in stunning form at the weekend as United beat Arsenal 3-1, despite 33 shots raining down on his goal.

And ahead of the Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow tonight (7.45pm), Mourinho hinted that he would be rotating his man between the sticks.

“My goalkeeper is always the best goalkeeper in the world,” Mourinho said.

“So now David is the third best. [Sergio] Romero is number one and Joel [Pereira] number two, and David is the third best.”
