I'm A Celebrity 2017: Strictly Come Dancing star to replace Jack Maynard after shock axe?

Fans of the much-loved BBC dance competition were horrified earlier this month when frontrunner Aston Merrygold, 29, was booted off the show after losing to Mollie King, 30, in the dance off.

However, the Strictly Come Dancing star has now been tipped to take on another reality series, with Betway offering odds of 5/2 for the former JLS star to replace Jack in the jungle.

News broke last night that Jack had been removed after historic tweets including racially offensive and homophobic terms were revealed.

The bookies’ Alan Alger told Express.co.uk: “Aston Merrygold certainly has unfinished business with celebrity TV shows after his shock eviction from Strictly earlier this month and he’s been backed at 5/2 to replace the axed Maynard in the jungle.

“I’m A Celeb producers will be scrambling for a replacement after losing Maynard so early on and a host of names have been mentioned,” he continued. “Gemma Collins, who so famously left the show after 72 hours, leads the pack of 8/1 fancies, with Karl Pilkington and Conor Maynard the same price.”

Ex-Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby, 27, has also had her name thrown into the mix, with odds at 11/2.

Jack’s unexpected early exit was addressed by his representative who said yesterday: “Jack is ashamed of what he said in these tweets, many of which were deleted a long time ago and were sent in response to a neighbour who was bullying him.

“Jack was a lot younger when he posted them in 2012 but realises that age is no defence.

“He would never use that language now and realises that, as someone who was bullied himself, this kind of retaliatory, inflammatory, insulting language is completely unacceptable,” his representative added.

Following his exit, the spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “Since it is only fair that everyone should be aware of any allegations made against them and should also have the right to defend themselves, it was agreed that it would be better to bring him out of the show.”

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
