British WWII bomb forces 26,000 to evacuate in Germany

A 1.8-ton British bomb left over from the Second World War forced more than 26,000 people to leave their homes in the western German city of Paderborn on Sunday. Buildings within a 1.5km (0.93-mile) radius of the bomb were evacuated while it was being removed, as well as two hospitals, several homes for the elderly, and a university, DPA news agency reported. More than 1,000 firefighters and emergency services personnel were on duty as bomb-disposal specialists worked to remove the bomb, which was discovered late last month during construction work in a local garden.
