BBC weather forecast: Carol Kirkwood issues ICE warning after snow – UK locations MAPPED

BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood explained that there is a large risk of ice in places and said snow will continue in Scotland.

She reported: “This morning it’s a chilly start to the day there is the risk of ice on untreated surfaces.

“And for some of us there’s some mist and fog as well but the general forecast is we’ve got showers spreading south and snow for the Scottish hills.”

However, the weather is set to improve this week after days of heavy snowfall, windchill and freezing conditions.

All parts to the British Island will be mostly dry and mild with a few odd sunny spells in some areas.

But it won’t last long as a area of low pressure will remain close to the UK for most of the week.

This morning there will be quite a few showers in the south and this will become extensive as the day goes on.

Meanwhile, in Scotland the snow is expected to continue as the moisture from the north sea will convert some of the rain into snow.

Also, rain will spread from the southwest and into other areas later on today, however, it is likely to only be a few sunny spells.

Tonight it is going to be mostly cloudy with rain spreading northwards across the UK, bringing with it some heavy snow on the northern hills.

Some places could turn misty, but there might be a few clear breaks in the south later.

On Tuesday, the weather front will move away from England and Wales towards the higher ground of Scotland.

As a result there could be a few wintery showers in the lower levels, however, the bulk of the snow will be in the high ground of north Scotland.

Elsewhere, in the south it will be a relatively bright day with outbreaks of sunshine, although this will be in short supply.

Wednesday will be cooler for most with the exception of Scotland, which will continue to have snow showers.

Nevertheless for the rest of the UK it will be milder than last week, although in the evening it will get colder.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
