BBC Breakfast’s Louise Minchin in ‘terrible trouble’ after team meeting

Dan Walker and Louise Minchin returned with their final show of the week and BBC Breakfast viewers saw them discuss a newspaper story about homeschooling. Up and down the nation, every weekday, parents are having to ensure their children attend online classes and workshops while lockdown continues. But some parents and guardians have taken home education to a whole new level and found themselves getting involved in the lessons. Louise spoke about her own experience revealing a blunder she made with the BBC team.

“Shall we look at the inside pages? What have you got?” Louise asked her co-star.

“I’ve got homeschooling,” Dan remarked and she added: “On the top of so many people’s agenda, morning everybody if you’re starting the day.”

“Are you one of those parents who chats a bit during your homeschool, or do you have one of those in the class?” he asked.

“Because the behaviour of children is one of the biggest challenges in the classroom, but the behaviour of parents is proving a bit of an issue for teachers.

“One year four teacher wrote on Twitter: ‘I have parents whispering answers to their children today on Microsoft Teams.’

“She received 166 comments on this and loads of other people said: ‘I’ve got the same sort of issue.’

“One teacher said: ‘I had a child get stuck into an answer and he struggled to finish it off, so his mum came into frame and gave the rest of the answer.’

“Even teachers cannot resist sitting in judgement on parents as well because there’s one teacher who said: ‘I have a woman who sits with a notebook and pen and a judgy look in full view of camera.’”

“‘Get out of the way!’” Dan joked.

It comes after the BBC created a homeschooling schedule which sees BBC Bitesize, BBC Two and CBBC providing educational programmes and resources to aid children learning from home.

BBC Breakfast are also doing their bit, they have a ‘Lockdown Life’ segment which includes interviews with inspirational guests.

On Wednesday morning, Olympic medallist Adam Peaty joined the BBC hosts to talk about how to stay fit while gyms, leisure centres and clubs are shut.
