Exciting new comedy arriving on Channel 4 this year is Matt Berry’s Year of the Rabbit. The series follows a drunk detective trying to solve crimes in Victorian London. The Bodyguard’s Keeley Haws also stars in the brand new series.

When is Year of the Rabbit released on Channel 4?

Year of the Rabbit is yet to be given a release date but will be released on Channel 4 in the coming months.

The comedy is included on the broadcaster’s comedy slate for the first half of the year.

Year of the Rabbit, which will consist of six 30-minute episodes, is currently in production.

As well as an exciting cast, the series boasts a stellar creative team with Ben Taylor of Sex Education and Catastrophe taking on directing duties.

Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil (Veep and Black Books) wrote the screenplay, with additional material from Matt Berry.

Who is in the cast of Year of the Rabbit on Channel 4?

Leading the cast of Year of the Rabbit is Matt Berry who plays the title character Detective Inspector Rabbit.

He is joined by his partner Wilbur Strauss who is played by Freddie Fox.

Starring as the country’s first female police officer, Mabel Wisbech is Susan Wakoma.

Keeley Hawes stars as the mysterious Lydia and Sally Phillips is Princess Juliana of Bulgaria.

Jill Halfpenny takes on the role of Rabbit’s ex, Flora.

Alun Armstrong plays Chief Inspector Wisbech and Paul Kaye plays Rabbit’s nemesis, DI Tanner.

Also starring in the series are David Dawson, Ann Mitchell, Alistair Petrie, Matthew Holness and Craig Parkinson.

What is the plot of Year of the Rabbit on Channel 4?

The synopsis for Year of the Rabbit reads: “The new 6×30 comedy, which is produced by Objective Fiction out of OMG Scotland with international partners IFC and all3media international, sees BAFTA-winning actor Matt Berry play Detective Inspector Rabbit, a hardened booze-hound cop in Victorian London.

“He’s aided and abetted by his new partner Wilbur Strauss and the country’s first female police officer, Mabel Wisbech, as they bring justice to the streets of the east end.”

Speaking about the series, Keeley Hawes said: “It’s great to be working with Matt, Susan and Freddie on such a brilliantly original show. Lydia is such an enigmatic character. It’s been a thoroughly enjoyable, bonkers experience.”

Sally Phillips added: “I can report that there is literally nothing more pleasurable than playing a haughty, 19th Century, pansexual, Bulgarian autocrat with access to guns. I may have peaked.”
