So why are fans getting so upset about her latest photoshoot, blasting the actress as “cheap” and “the ugliest in Bollywood”?
Even worse, reporst in the Indian press claim that her director, Sanjay Bhansali, is also very unhappy with the racy new images.
The provocative images focus on the stunning actress’s bare legs and behind.
According to a report in the Deccan Chronicle, Padukone’s latest pictures risk bringing the upcoming film into disrepute.
Padmavati is about a beloved real-life gangster queen and her followers have already vandalised the film sets in Jaipur and Kolhapur and even attacked Bhansali himself.
The report said: “Deepika is essaying the role of a historical character, a Rani (queen) in Padmavati and to pose for steamy photoshoots right before the release of the film, is unacceptable to him (Sanjay Leela Bhansali).
“He feels the pictures could rub people the wrong way. After what has happened in the past, he just cannot afford to risk it all.”
Some comments on the Instagram pictures accuse Padukone of stoping “so low.”
Clearly, since the film is based on a well-known figure who inspired devotion in her followers, emotions are runnnig high.
Padukone will play Rahima Khan, the Rani Mumbai crime queen who vowed revenge on the crime boss who murdered her husband.
The historical epic will also star Irrfan Khan.
