X Factor 2018: Simon Cowell thrown as Dermot O’Leary takes completely unexpected SWIPE

Simon, 59, had just finished applauding his act Scarlett Lee, with the 20-year-old performing a rendition of Always On My Mind by Elvis Presley.

However last week, the judge did give Scarlett some criticism over her performance telling her she sounded like a club singer.

After the judge praised Scarlett’s latest performance, Dermot, 45, quickly spoke to the 20-year-old about how she felt.

Though, he couldn’t help but make a dig at Simon’s comments from last week as the judge lapped up the praise Scarlett was receiving from the audience.

Dermot told the judge: “Simon, it’s always nice to see you being a bit more supportive of your own acts.”

Last week, Scarlett blew the audience away with her rendition of Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin and survived the vote-off to sing for another week.

Her fellow category member Shan Ako also had a great reaction from the audience and the judges when she took on Imagine by John Lennon last week.

Bookmakers OddsMonkey have placed the young hopeful at the top of their polls table, with her chances of winning at 7/4.

A spokesperson for OddsMonkey, Peter Watton said: “Shan was impressive, and it is no surprise to see her back at the head of the market along with Misunderstood and Brendan Murray.”

If Shan did go on to triumph, Simon could put a second consecutive win under his belt after winning the 14th series of the hit ITV show with Rak-Su.

The second group to ever win the ITV series took to the X Factor stage last weekend almost a year after they were crowned winners.

Ayda was commenting on Robbie’s group United Vibe – who were being mentored by her husband – when she made the sly comment.

Speaking to the young men, Ayda said: “You guys just got together. I thought that was a great song choice and do you know what?

“You guys get on really well which is important, because the worst thing in a group is when one person thinks that they’re better than everyone else.”

Robbie seemed shocked by the remark, however, Ayda completely dismissed the reaction she was getting from her cutting comment.

The mentor then went on to speak to the boys, telling them: “Lads, I feel like a proper proud dad. I don’t know what these two are on about,” referring his fellow judges’ comments.

“You know, in the early days of Take That when we had been together for a month or six weeks, however long it is you’re together now, you are leaps and bounds beyond us.”

However, after the group’s performance tonight, Robbie made a plea to the viewers as he agreed with Simon that the group needed to change their name.

Viewers will have to tune in to tomorrow night’s results show to see which two acts will be eliminated from the competition.

X Factor continues tomorrow night at 8pm on ITV.
