The 57-year-old head judge was delivering his verdict to Karen Kennedy following her performance of Tina Arena’s track Chains, but the 42-year-old begged to be given another chance.
County Durham based holiday park singer Karen was given a no from all four of the judges which resulted in a clash of words.
Simon said: “Right Karen, here are the positives and the not so positives. The positives are that you’ve been consistent throughout the competition.
“We’ve got to know you as a person and we like you very much. You have a good voice.”
He then added: “The not so positive is in the category that you’re competing in there are some very, very strong people.
“So, we have to take everything into consideration. We’ve made a decision Karen and I’m afraid it’s bad news. This is it.”
Shaking her head, Karen said: “No way! Please. I know I can do better. I know my category. I know a lot of them in my category and I’m not going to lie, yes there are some good singers, there really is, but so am I.
“I know I can do better than what I’ve just done. If you just give me the chance. I’m not asking…”
Simon then interrupted the hopeful and sternly snapped: “Karen, we’ve made our minds up. We are going to ask you to go home now. Sorry!”
Shocked, Karen gasped “Wow” as gobsmacked host Dermot O’Leary added: “Wow, that did not go down well!”
