Heather Watson got the ball rolling for the Brits with a stunning 6-0 6-4 win over Anastasija Sevastova – the 18th seed – in just 61 brutal minutes.
It proved to be the first sign that a dream day was on the cards.
Aljaz Bedene, the British number four, beat his good mate Damir Dzumhur in 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-3 to make it two in round three before Johana Konta won a 3hr-long epic.
In a match fitting for a final on a packed Centre Court, Konta beat Donna Vekic 7-6 4-6 10-8 to progress – a loss that had her plucky opponent in tears.
Andy Murray then became number four by overcoming the flamboyant Dustin Brown with ease 6-3 6-2 6-2 to make it a British job well done.
Konta beamed at the perfect day and said: “The reason for it is because we have got great players. I think that’s probably a good enough reason.
“All the players work very hard to make it into the second, third, fourth quarters, latter stages of every tournament. So I think it’s a great movement to be a part of personally for me.
“It’s also something that I’m sure is very exciting to the spectators that are coming to the Championships this year.
“I think that would be something that would be very exciting for them.”
Murray was equally happy as he set up a third-round meeting with Fabio Fognini – and remained unscathed in the process.
He played down any injury fears after the game and said: “My hip is OK. I have moved well in the first couple of matches, it hasn’t affected me. I have been getting good practices in and it feels good. Hopefully it stays that way.
“It’s been a good start, hopefully I can keep it going.”
Bedene, who had to deal with flying ants during his four-set win, will take on 16th seed Gilles Muller in the next round.
“He loves grass, he loves serve-and-volley play and he’s quite aggressive,” Bedene said.
“I played him a few weeks ago so I know, I wouldn’t say his weaknesses, because there aren’t many, but if I play my game, I’ve got a chance.”
On the flying ants, he added: “They did bother us, but when you are playing a point, you only see the ball.
“After the point they were just flying around. Hopefully that was just today and they will be gone by Friday.”
While Heather Watson, who meets Victoria Azarenka in round three, added: “Vika is an incredible player and person. I really respect how hard she works and how focused she is.
“I look forward to playing her. I know she has only just come back, but I expect her to be playing really well because I know she will have put in the hours and the work.
“You don’t get to where she’s got to in her career without, you know, being a really good player.”
