Wife Swap Brexit Special: Remainer branded a ‘RAPIST’ by Leavers for being an immigrant

The Channel 4 series returns to screens for the first time in eight years tonight as two families divided by last year’s Brexit result switch lives as means to understand the other’s polarised perspective.

Remainer Kat Boettge told hosts Holly Willoughby, 36, and Phillip Schofield, 54, of the horrific abuse she faced when attending UKIP fan Pauline Edwards’ social club.

“I wanted to take part as a migrant to show I am contributing and show people what a migrant looks like,” Kat explained.

However, she was stunned when she was overwhelmed with abuse at Pauline’s workplace.

“I was exposed to four hours of incredible abuse and hostility, which I thought was a real shame” she sighed. “We can still have differing opinions and still be respectful, and I’ve tried to do that throughout the whole week.”

She continued: “In that social club, it wasn’t the case. I was shouted at a lot, and it was really quite upsetting because I’m a migrant and when I’m being shouted at that ‘migrants are all rapists’, that is a little bit upsetting.”

Pauline said she was also “thrown to lions” but admitted she wasn’t faced with quite the same opposition.

“It got a bit heated over certain subjects,” she explained. “But on the whole it really was quite an eye opener.”

Though, both Kat and Pauline agreed that eventually they came together because of their strong family values, closing their experience with a very “amicable” goodbye.

Wife Swap: Brexit Special airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 4 while This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
