Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Jeremy Clarkson speechless after contestant lifeline gaffe

Jeremy Clarkson returned this evening with a brand new series of classic ITV quiz show Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

The presenter is on hand to assist the hopeful contestants and isn’t afraid to comment on their lack of knowledge.

Cain was the first contestant to try his luck but a confession he made after using a lifeline left Jeremy speechless.

Jeremy asked Cain: “If a food is prepared in the ‘julienne’ style, which of these does it resemble?”

Out of the four options provided, Cain wasn’t sure of the answer and opted to use the ‘Ask The Audience’ lifeline.

The majority of the audience chose option C for “Matchsticks” but this revelation jogged Cain’s memory.

“Well 42% have gone for matchsticks,” read Jeremy.

Cain confused: “You know what, julienne fries. Can I go matchsticks final answer please?”

After a long pause, Jeremy quipped: “Literally wasted a lifeline.”

Cain and the studio audience could be heard laughing before Jeremy confirmed he had answered correctly.

The hopeful quizzer continued this pattern and used his lifelines despite admitting he would have chosen the correct answer regardless.

Viewers were quick to comment on the contestant’s performance.

One said: “Oh my god this guy is so annoying! Wasted his life lines and knows the answer after using them, so stupid! #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”

Another added: “Go with you instincts man! They seem to be dong well! #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”

“That guy has wasted his lifelines on easy questions! #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire,” a third remarked.

A fourth wrote: “He’s used all his lifelines at an early stage, questions were too easy #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire this guy.”

“Another lifeline?! These are easy questions!! #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire,” another tweeted.

“This guy is incredibly cocky for someone who’s used three lifelines when questions haven’t even started getting hard yet. #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire,” a sixth said.

Unfortunately Cain’s luck ran out and he went home with £8,000.
