When is Godless on Netflix? Release date, cast, latest news

The show features a star-studded cast including Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery, Jeff Daniels and Jack O’Connell.

Godless will be available to watch later this year but here is everything you need to know about the show from the premise to the cast to the release date.

The show is set in the early days of what we now know as modern America, a time of cow boys and outlaws running roughshod across the desert with nothing around for miles.

Described as an “epic western”, Godless tells the story of a young outlaw called Roy Goode (played by Jack O’Connell) fleeing from his former band of equally dodgy friends after betraying his brotherhood.

Roy is on the run from notorious criminal Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels), who once served as a father figure to the son-like protégé.

While on the run, Roy seeks refuge with steely widower Alice Fletcher (Michelle Dockery) who is herself an outcast.

Alice is down-beaten and ostracised, and now lives in a town called La Belle in New Mexico which is predominantly run by women.

When word reaches La Belle that Frank and his gang are coming their way, the town will stop at nothing to protect itself from the murderous outlaws.

The seven-part show features a stellar cast that include Michelle Dockery, better known as Lady Mary from ITV period drama Downton Abbey.

Hollywood A-lister from Derby Jack O’Connell has had roles in This Is England and Skins.

His first lead was in Angelina Jolie’s Hollywood movie Unbroken in which he portrayed Olympian-turned-war hero Louis Zamperini.

Acting heavyweight Jeff Daniels switches things up a gear as villain Frank Griffin in Lawless, quite a contrast to his character Will McAvoy in The Newsroom.

Other stars include Game of Thrones actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Sons of Anarchy’s Kim Coates and Merritt Wever from Nurse Jackie and The Walking Dead.

Godless is filmed in Santa Fe, New Mexico which stands in for the mining town of La Belle in 1800s in the same state.

The show has been written, produced and directed by Scott Frank, while Steven Soderbergh serves as an executive producer.

Godless will be available to watch in one go when all seven episodes drop on Netflix on November 22.

According to US entertainment site Deadline.com, Godless is reportedly a limited period drama

suggesting that it will be a one-off rather than the beginning of a number of seasons.

Godless will be available on Netflix from November 22.
