Viral video has captured the moment a giant shark startled a group of fisherman.
The friends were fishing off their small boat off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, US.
Suddenly a huge shark appeared right next to their boat, just beneath the surface.
Jeremy Ballantine filmed the extremely close encounter in Barnstable Harbor.
The shark eventually turned and swam away to leave the fisherman in peace.
Uploading the incredible footage to Facebook, Jeremy said: “We are fishing off Cape Cod and this guy pays us a visit.
“The coolest thing I’ve ever seen on the water!”
Marine experts who have reviewed the footage have said it was a basking shark.
The second largest living fish, basking sharks can reach a staggering 20-26ft in length.
Viewers were stunned at the size of the shark depicted in this video.
One Facebook user wrote: “My boat is NOT BIG ENOUGH!” while another shared: “That’s the real JAWS!”
Other viewers called it “awesome”, “massive” and “one BIG fish”.
