The couple were frolicking in the waster at Pattaya, a resort south of Bangkok.
But their late night swim was quickly noticed by onlookers, who claim the pair were ‘having sex’ in the water.
Police soon arrived on the beach to make the British tourists get out of the water.
Video showed the couple emerging from the sea. The 26-year-old man from London was completely naked while the woman was wearing nothing but a bra.
Two officers marched them along the beach before waiting for them to put some clothes on by one of the hammocks.
The woman could be heard saying: “We’re not going to the police station, we’re going this way yeah.”
But police instead took them to Pattaya City Police Station to charge them with obscenity and drunken behaviour.
The tourists were each fined 1,000 baht (£23).
Deputy Inspector of Investigations Lt. Col. Sombat Kaewmuang said: “Police received a report at 2.30am on July 23 that one male and one female tourist were naked together on Pattaya beach. Reports were they were having sex.
“Both Thai and foreign tourists had gathered around them. Police checked and both the man and woman were intoxicated.”
“They walked naked out of the sea and staff made them wear clothes.
“Reports were that they were having sex but they both denied this and it is not possible to prove it.
