Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace makes Euro debut with TDI engine options

You’ve probably seen this vehicle before, at least if you follow the major auto shows in America. But the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace makes its official European debut at the Geneva Motor Show, and it does so with a lot more engine options than we get in the States, including a trio of TDI diesel options. It seems that VW’s wholesale switch to electrification hasn’t hit Europe just yet.

The identifying aspect of the Allspace model is its extended wheelbase, which is 4.4 inches longer than the standard Tiguan. Total length grows by a more substantial 10.7 inches, which allows for the addition of a third row of seats. What’s more, the Tiguan Allspace is rated to tow as much as 5,500 pounds when properly equipped, which means anything that doesn’t fit in the back can certainly fit in a trailer. Or, if you’re British, the caravan.

Three turbocharged gasoline-fueled engines are available, starting at 148 horsepower, stepping up to 178 ponies and culminating in a 217-hp variant. Three TDI engines will be available with output levels of 148 hp, 187 hp, and 237 hp. Assuming that hi-po TDI is the same one seen in the Passat, it will put out an impressive 369 pound-feet of torque. And if you’re worried about emissions, know that each of these diesel-powered engines feature AdBlue selective catalyst reduction systems to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxide emitted from the tailpipe. Naturally, 4Motion will be optional.

The Tiguan Allspace will hit European dealerships in September. We’ll have plenty more coming ahead of the Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned.
