Vincent Kompany leads the party with Guinness and Oasis songs as Man City clinch the title

City were officially crowned champions after Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by basement club West Brom at Old Trafford.

Manchester City had beaten Tottenham 3-1 on Saturday night to put the title within reach after the derby defeat last week.

And club captain Kompany rushed to the pub to celebrate with team-mates and fans.

“If there’s kids in the room, cover their ears or send them out. It’s a been a f****** long journey, especially if you have been a blue for more than 40 years in your heart,” he said as he stood up in the pub alongside Fabian Delph and John Stones.

“But tonight, we won it again! So let’s celebrate together…”

Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva were among the others in attendance at the Railway pub in Hale as City players danced and sang with fans.

They moved on to a wine bar across the street where chants of the Yaya and Kolo Toure song could be heard as well as Oasis’ Wonderwall.

City claimed their third league title in seven seasons – the most of any team in that period, with United only winning it once, Chelsea twice and Leicester the other time.

Pep Guardiola, who was seen playing golf with Tommy Fleetwood earlier in the day, has turned City into a team in his style after a difficult first season.

And, despite the disappointment in Europe in losing to Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals, he has City firing with many believing they will build a dynasty for years to come.

City could yet overtake Chelsea’s record points haul of 95 from 2004 – needing just eight more to draw level from their final five games.

The goal record is also in sight with the 93 scored so far only 10 shy of Chelsea’s record from 2010.

City blitzed the league in the early part of the season with the only blip coming last week when they lost to Liverpool twice in the Champions League and in the Manchester derby when they had the chance to win the title last week.

But it has been a matter of when for the last few months now with Kevin de Bruyne leading the charge in imperious form.

But Kompany has called on City to be the first side since United in 2009 to retain the title.

“I’m happy and I suppose my team-mates would roll their eyes a bit at this but I kind of want to see how the reaction’s gonna be now,” he said.

“I’ve never been able to retain the title and I wanna see if this team’s got it to carry on and be even more successful.”
