Victoria’s current season is still airing on PBS in the US and hasn’t even started on ITV, but already fans are wondering if and when there will be another series of the show starring Jenna Coleman. ITV and PBS have not confirmed Victoria season four and are unlikely to do so until the viewing figures from its UK run come in. Victoria this season ends in 1851, meaning there’s plenty more story to tell about Queen Victoria (played byJenna Coleman) and Prince Albert (Tom Hughes) in Victoria series four.
Will there be another season of Victoria?
Victoria season four has not been confirmed by either ITV or PBS.
However, the showrunner has previously talked about the show running for a few more series.
Victoria creator Daisy Goodwin told The Sun: “We couldn’t do it after she dies, so I’ll say there’ll be five series.”
The current series takes the action up to 1851 and the opening of the Great Exhibition.
Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert lived until 1861, so even if they wanted the series to continuing focusing on their relationship they could have another series or more.
However, numerous publications wrote about Victoria’s falling ratings in season two, putting any future seasons into question.
TellyMix reported in 2017: “Victoria returned down 1.4 million viewers on the series one opener in 2016, and 800,000 below the Series 1 average, based on overnight figures.”
Meanwhile The Sun said: “The 64-year reign of Queen Victoria, one of our most famous monarchs, will always be remembered.
“It’s a shame the same can’t be said for the ailing ITV drama of her life.”
However, the ratings for the upcoming Victoria season three could see it generate a strong enough viewership to grant it another season.
What will happen in Victoria season 4?
No plot details have been revealed for the next series of Victoria yet.
However, there are a number of historical events that could feature in the next series if one is ordered.
Depending on the time period covered in the next series, Victoria season four could feature the birth of her eighth child and her ninth and final child.
These births were notable as they were both delivered under the influence of chloroform despite the better judgements of some medics of the time.
The series could also cover Napoleon III’s visits to the UK in 1855 and in 1858.
In the latter visit, a British man tried to assassinate Napoleon leading to a massive political crisis.
However, fans will have to wait for more news to find out what will really happen in Victoria season four.
Victoria is coming soon to ITV.
