US flights: Tropical Storm Gordon to affect Louisiana and Florida travellers – full list

Tropical Storm Gordon is to hit the Gulf Coast later today and could become a hurricane just before it makes landfall.

The storm is currently a threat to anyone in the United States along the coast from Louisiana to Florida, according to the National Hurricane Centre (NHC)

Wind speeds of up to 65mph have been recorded, with the speed of a hurricane measured at 74mph.

A number of airlines are allowing passengers who are meant to be travelling in the region to change their flights for free.

American Airlines

Passengers flying from New Orleans in Louisiana, Destin in Florida; and Mobile in Alabama can change their flights for free if travelling between 3 September and 5 September.

The new flights must be booked for travel by 9 September.

Delta Airlines

The flight change fee has been waived for passengers as well as any flight price difference travelling from eight airports across the Gulf coast.

Travellers on 4 September and 5 September will need to travel by 9 September.

If rebooking after 9 September, the difference in ticket price will be charged.

They tweeted: “We’ve issued a travel waiver for September 4th – 5th due to forecasted weather to/from/through parts of Louisiana and Florida.”

Frontier Airlines

Travellers from airports in Jackson in Mississippi, New Orleans or Pensacola in Florida can change their ticket if travelling between 4 September and 6 September.

Flights must be taken by 28 September, with any fare difference costs needing to be paid by the passenger after this date.

The airline is the only one to allow the origin and destination city to be changed for free also.

JetBlue

Only flights to and from New Orleans today will be able to be changed for free.

Travel must take place by 7 September.

Southwest Airlines

New Orleans, Panama City and Pensacola airport travellers can change their ticket for free if travelling between 4 September and 5 September

The new ticket must be booked within 14 days of the original flight.

Spirit Airlines

Only New Orleans passengers will be able to change their ticket until tomorrow (5 September).

Rebooked travel must take place by 11 September otherwise additional costs may be charged.

United Airlines

At least ten airports across Louisiana and Florida will be affected, with rebooked travel allowed until 5 September.

Flights can be changed for free with travel taking place by 9 September.
