Twitter DOWN – Social networking site not working for HUNDREDS of users

Twitter is down right now and not working for hundreds of users today.

Independent website Down Detector has received a surge of Twitter down reports.

Some 40 per cent of those affected are experiencing problems with the Twitter website.

While 33 per cent are experiencing issues with the iPad app and 26 per cent are having problems with the Android app.

Down Detector is an independent website which tracks outages across the globe by monitoring social mentions around specific topics.

The outage monitor started receiving reports of Twitter down around 4.20pm GMT today.

The issues may not have seemed apparent at first for many users, with The Independent reporting that timelines were being filled with old tweets.

Pages were still showing, just instead the tweets that were appearing was old content instead of new posts.

The problem suggested that feeds on Twitter weren’t updating.

This isn’t the first time that Twitter has gone down in 2018.

In January the social networking site went down for thousands of users, with Down Detector hitting a peak of over 6,000 reported issues with the service.

After the outage was over users returned to Twitter to poke fun at how they coped without the micro blogging site.

One user tweeted: “Twitter went down for about 20 minutes and I couldn’t even complain about it on Twitter.”

While another wrote: “TWITTER DOWN, GUYS. TWITTER DOWN. SOMEONE HELP. TWITTER, DON’T SCARE ME.”

One added: “When Twitter goes down and you can’t check Twitter to see if it’s just you #TwitterDown”.

And another posted: “That was the longest 7 minutes of my life #TwitterDown”.
