This Morning: Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield devastated over colleague’s death

Holly Willoughby and her This Morning co-host Phillip Schofield were teary-eyed opening the show today as they revealed their colleague Charlie passed away after battling a long-term illness.

“We’re starting with some very sad news about a member of team here,” Phillip began.

Holly continued: “Yeah, one of our long-standing crew members, Charlie Hart, passed away yesterday after battling a long-term illness.”

“Charlie spent more than 10 years here with us at ITV,” Phillip added.

“And it wasn’t just behind the cameras that Charlie played an important role.

Another added: “So sad. Breaks my heart. I am sure watching over. You are much loved cared about valued appreciated respected.

“An inspiration. A role model. Sure be ever so proud of you all. Thinking of you. In thoughts and prayers. Sending love and best wishes xx.”

The sad news comes after fellow This Morning presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford announced the departure of another college.

Last week, the pair revealed one of the show’s producers, Lucy Jones, was stepping away from the show.

Eamonn explained: “It’s daunting for Ruth and I to think of doing this program again without our producer Lucy Johnson who says goodbye.”

“Lucy, don’t cry. Don’t cry,” he continued, speaking to their producer. “She says goodbye to us after eight years. It seems much longer.

“Lucy is moving on to new challenges in the TV industry.

“We look forward to seeing you in TV land once again some day!”

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am.
