During her time in the Love Island villa, Hayley confessed that she didn’t understand what Brexit was.
As a result, This Morning introduced her to Nigel Farage so that he could explain what leaving the European Union means for the country.
Speaking to hosts Sara Cox and Michael Ball, Hayley confessed: “When me and Nigel spoke, we said it was harder for the younger generation to learn about it because we sit on social media and things and it’s not like a big part on social media.”
Nigel added: “Hayley’s generation don’t buy newspapers or watch the news.
“They get their news and form their opinions through social media. It’s remarkable how few political figures engage in social media at all.”
The former leader of UKIP went on to note that one of the biggest flaws in Brexit was that not enough people understood what it meant.
Furthermore, he claimed that politicians were not connected enough to younger voters.
“There is a bit of a responsibility on our leaders to start engaging and using this media with the younger generation,” he said.
Sara asked: “Is that a good idea when you see Trump’s tweets?”
“Well you can disagree with the content but the one thing Donald Trump has done is connected with the nation,” argued Nigel.
“Half of them love him and half of them hate him but they all know what he’s saying.”
“Our politicians, what is really interesting and it’s not just Hayley, she was picked out and ridiculed for not knowing about Brexit, actually there are vast numbers of people who couldn’t name the Chancellor of the Exchequer was,” Nigel explained.
“We’re just not connected to the people.”
The pair didn’t just talk about Brexit, they also discussed the ongoing series of Love Island.
Sara asked: “Who’s going to win Love Island?”
“I don’t know,” Nigel commented.
However, Hayley seemed to be more on the ball as she quickly quipped: “Dani [Dyer] and Jack [Fincham].”
It came after viewers were left amused by Sara and Michael’s introduction to This Morning.
Michael joked: “Do you like the billing? Cox and Ball.”
