But many eagle-eyed fans were a little distracted by a flying object in the background instead of the aftermath of the dramatic showdown.
There are very few survivors in the apocalyptic world leading to speculation whether it was a plane that has a meaning for future episodes.
Viewers were quick to notice the black object although it remains unclear on what it actually was.
“Did anyone else see the plane flying in the sky right after Rick climbed out of the garbage heap?” One viewer asked.
Another questioned: “Was that a plane behind Rick’s head? Is it supposed to be there or is it a blooper? @WalkingDead_AMC.”
A third added: “@nerdist @AMCTalkingDead please discuss why there was a plane flying in the background of the landfill scene #zombiesonaplane #walkingdead.”
“@WalkingDead_AMC was that a bird or a plane in the background,” said one confused fan.
Elsewhere in the episodes, Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) was finally reunited with his friend Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) after the latter left the Alexandrian community, refusing to have any more violence in her life.
