Back in the blind auditions, the Black Eyed Peas frontman panicked when he mistakingly pushed his red button for Lawrence Hill.
In the latest instalment of the ITV talent show, the 41-year-old was forced to face up to his epic blunder as Lawrence squared up to the judge in one of the most painful moments in the show’s six year history.
Lawrence admitted: “Meeting up with will.i.am, there was very much an elephant in the room.”
Facing the judge, he said: “We need to clear the air before we start because obviously there was a bit of an accident.”
“It was a delighted accident,” assured the trembling coach. “I thought you were going to kick my butt for accidentally pushing my button.”
Lawrence teased: “I just wanted to kick it a little bit.”
Sadly, Lawrence couldn’t sway the chart-topping star when it came to the crunch and was subsequently booted out over Jason Jones after they battled it out to the track Long Train Running by the Doobie Brothers.
