The Loch: SHOCKING revelation has viewers GRIPPED – does this confirm the mystery killer?

But as fans continued to struggle to guess who the killer is, the sudden twist threw a spanner in the works.

As the ill patient simply stood on the road outside his house, his haunted expression lingered just long enough to leave viewers confused at the development, and even more bewildered when the boy’s mother suddenly ran out of their home and took him back inside.

Viewers instantly took to Twitter to share their shock, as one posted: “Wtf he got out of bed, this is getting good #TheLoch,” and another echoed: He’s out of bed!!!!!!! Not the first time I think #TheLoch”

Some people believed that the boy isn’t actually in a coma, but rather being held by his mother.

“He isn’t ill at all, he’s being drugged #TheLoch,” one person speculated, while another didn’t seem as sure, adding: “So that mother is drugging that boy to keep him in that state? #TheLoch”

While the first three episodes were slow burners, the ITV series’ fourth offering ramped up the tension with a storyline between ex-partners Leighton Thomas (played by William Ash) and Oliver Tench (Fraser James), culminating in a nail-biting scene which saw Annie Redford’s (Laura Fraser) husband Alan (Gray O’Brien) get stabbed and Oliver arrested.

While the focus on the storyline in the latter half of the episode appeared to be a red herring for the real killer, the end of the hour saw Alan Redford appear to begin to admit something.

“Annie, there’s something I need to tell you,” he struggled to say to his wife, while lying on a stretcher.

“I’m sorry. Annie, I lied,” he continued, as the ambulance was about to drive away.

The episode finished with the detectives discovering a match for the blue van where they found Jonjo Patterson’s body at the end of last week, with a close up of the mystery man who was driving it on CCTV.

The Loch continues next Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
