Former Great British Bake Off hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins are the new presenters for the classic game show The Generation Game.
The duo who follow in the footsteps of the late Sir Bruce Forsyth revealed how a graphic teapot spout caused quite the stir during filming.
“We don’t want to spoil the surprise,” Sue began. “But we witnessed some of the most graphic teapot spout ever made on television.
“So graphic some of the contestants needed counselling afterwards. It took us an hour to stop laughing.”
For years the idea of relaunching The Generation Game was thrown out there, with Paul O’Grady even making a pilot episode in 2003.
While Miranda Hart was tipped to host a revived version of the show in 2014, it never happened.
Now Mel, 49, and Sue, 48, have taken on the huge task of bringing back the much-loved game show and insisted they wanted to stay “true to the spirit of the original” series.
“This is one of the most cherished entertainment shows and we don’t take that lightly,” Mel told TV Times.
Echoing her words, Sue added: “ e’ve stayed true to the spirit of the original – we meet some great families and we try to give them the best night of their lives.”
During the interview, both women sung the praises of original host Sir Bruce, who died at the aged of 89 in 2017.
“We grew up with Brucie,” Sue said. “And they don’t make them like that anymore.
“He was the only entertainer we can think of who not only had a catchphrase, but a personalised silhouette – that bent leg, fist-to-forehead stance.”
Meanwhile, Mel described Bruce as a “legend”, adding: “He was a one-off, a legend and an utter gentleman.”
The pair also said they got stuck in with some of the many games.
Sue said: “We tried all of them, because essentially, we behave like toddlers and love to get our hands dirty.”
Mel added: “After the recordings there was barely a surface of the set that hadn’t been smeared, smashed or gunked by us.”
The Generation Game will be shown on BBC One on Easter Sunday.
