The Chase viewers in turmoil over Bradley Walsh's BIG misunderstanding: “Cracking up”

Bradley Walsh‘s slip-up surprised viewers of ITV quiz show The Chase as they just couldn’t believe he had never heard of one very popular word.

Player Christine stepped up to the plate to face today’s Chaser Shaun Wallace, but everyone got a bit more than bargained for when one question popped up.

The question asked “The slang word ‘bae’ is often used as a form of address for a person’s what?” with the possible answers being god-child, girlfriend or grandmother.

The player selected “grandmother” although confessed to the presenter that she had “no idea” what it meant, and Bradley said he didn’t know either.

“It must be Scottish,” he claimed.

However, girlfriend was the correct answer, and to make matters even worse it transpired that Shaun had also got it wrong.

It appears those watching at home were a bit more clued up when it came to the modern word and were bemused that nobody on the show knew what it meant.

Fans took to Twitter to express their disbelief at the moment.

“Everyone on the chase thinking ‘bae’ was slang for grandmother. wtf,” one wrote.

While another exclaimed: “I love how they didn’t know what ‘Bae’ meant, adorable!! #TheChase.”

Bradley’s assertion that it was a Scottish word also left viewers reeling and they couldn’t help but comment.

“Bradley Walsh on #TheChase ‘BAE, never heard of it, must be scottish’ love it,” one lauded.

Another fan said: “Bradley Walsh on #TheChase ‘Bae… not heard of that, it must be scottish’ cracking up omg”

“#TheChase ‘bae’ is Scottish? I’m howling,” a third added.

Unfortunately for Christine, she was beaten by the Chaser and left the show empty handed.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
