Even for a show that frequently dabbles in mysterious, unfathomable phenomena, this finale is egg-stremely bizarre. Welcome back to… The Twilight Zone. “You Might Also Like” tells the story of one woman’s confusion over periodic blackouts and her neighborhood’s obsession with strange eggs that carry big promises. “The Egg will make everything OK again, and this time it will be OK forever.” Confused? A little scared? So were we. Read on for the highlights. Janet Warren (Boardwalk Empire‘s Gretchen Mol) wakes up in her pristine bedroom looking out of it. She details to her friend Mrs. Jones (Russian Doll‘s Greta Lee) that she’s been blacking out and losing chunks of time. It happens after she hears a sequence of chords, followed by a whooshing sound, then she wakes up in bed like nothing ever happened. The women then anticipate getting “their egg,” but we’re kept in the dark… for now. This feels like as good a place as any for The Narrator to swing through with his usual ominous offering: “Submitted for your approval, Mrs. Janet Warren. A woman who had seemed to have everything. Every. Thing,” he says. “But possessions have weight and we can’t carry them all at the same time. Especially when taking an unscheduled trip… into The Twilight Zone.” PART ONE: IT’S UGLY | The women wake up in Janet’s bed, and Mrs. Jones is equally confused as to what just occurred. Janet says she saw the egg in a commercial in her head and it’s ugly. She wonders if the egg has something to do with whatever’s happening to them. Her friend leaves (but not before Janet physically tries dragging her back), and Janet is left with only a small odd twig she found in her hair. PART TWO: REAL. HUMAN. BEING. | Janet calls her husband, but he’s in a meeting. She asks Megan, his secretary, why someone would want their family’s egg. Megan says that the world is not OK, and she wants her egg so that everything can be OK again. Okaaay. Janet calls someone at the fulfillment center to ask more questions, but when she’s put on hold, her neighbor screeches up the road. She has an egg, and she refuses to let Janet see it. Janet eventually asks the operator if she can cancel her family’s egg, and though the voice says they are processing her request, the line disconnects before confirming. Back inside, she walks into a nursery that has a crib and a baby monitor. She sets up the monitor in her own bedroom so she can record the freaky-deaky happenings. In the kitchen, she starts to cry, and immediately finds herself in the middle of a paper towel commercial. Cut to: waking up in her bed again. When she checks the monitor footage, she sees herself floating toward the window like some scene from Poltergeist. The weird keeps getting weirder. They start talking about how “the leg is its best piece,” and quip about being hungry. They decide to go original recipe over extra crispy, and oh my god, what am I even typing right now? They start scheming, but Janet cuts them off. “You can’t just pull us out of our lives, you know!” She demands to be taken to their PART FOUR: LIKE THE GREAT GLITTERING CITIES OF YOUR WORLD | Janet appears on a screen that is being watched by heaps of alien beings. She talks about her childhood, and reveals she recently delivered a stillborn, which was very hard on her. She talks about hating her house and their cars, and how she wishes she had different things. The supervisor says they’re afraid of how often humans change their minds. The aliens’ minds are one collective, and changing it would require the same energy needed to reverse the flow of the Mississippi River. The being admits to monitoring humans since 1945, when radio first started. They tried to learn about humans by studying TV commercials, but struggled to make any sense of it. Janet asks if she can go home, but they tell her she’ll be safe with them. She still wants to make her designated fulfillment center appointment to get her egg. “You understand your egg is a spawn designed to eradicate the human race.” Yep. She gets it, but she still craves the blissful ignorance the egg can provide her. “I just want to hold it. Even for a little while… because it’s… well, it’s mine.” She wakes up in her bed to the sounds of sirens and screaming outside. In the nursery, she talks to the crib saying, “It would be much, much better if it was you who was coming home with me today.” She gets in her car and starts driving down the street as chaos erupts around her. It’s the middle of a friggin’ apocalypse, yet Janet is still determined to get her egg. The Skyliners’ “Since I Don’t Have You” plays as Janet runs into the center. Spaceships hover above her, as plumes of smoke rise from the earth. Cue The Narrator! “Existential dread got you down? Well, Mrs. Janet Warren finally found relief, albeit, for a limited-time only. But buyer beware: All sales are final here… in the Twilight Zone.” What did you think of the finale and which Season 2 episode was your fave? The Law & Order: SVU alum and Dharma & Greg star play grieving parents in the Season 2 installment “A Human Face” — debuting Thursday on CBS All Access — and in the exclusive sneak peek above, Meloni’s character Robert tries to calm down his wife Barbara, played by Elfman, after they’ve seen something that’s clearly shaken both of them to the core. He theorizes that it must be the result of a “cosmic flare,” but she thinks it’s something closer to home… and shows him a photo of their deceased daughter. “We have an alien in our basement,” Robert declares, but Barbara insists what they saw was actually their beloved daughter: “There was something there. You saw it. It was her!” He doesn’t understand what she’s saying, but she’s clear about one thing: “I’m not leaving.” All 10 Season 2 episodes of The Twilight Zone — including installments starring Emmy winner Billy Porter (Pose), Joel McHale (Community) and Morena Baccarin (Gotham) — premiere this Thursday on CBS All Access. Lorraine, an NHS nurse in London told ITV Good Morning Britain she was told by her manager to share facemasks and other protective equipment with her colleagues as they face a “tsunami” of coronavirus patients. She denounced the Government’s failure to provide NHS staff with protective equipment four months ago when they first learned about coronavirus. She described her day-to-day- life as going into a “war zone”. Doctors will be forced to leave the profession during the coronavirus pandemic due to a lack of protective equipment, the head of a medics group has warned. Amid fears over NHS staff shortages, the head of the Doctors’ Association UK said existing staff may feel forced to leave because they do not have adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) to safely treat Covid-19 patients. Chairman Dr Rinesh Parmar gave the warning as the Government urges recruitment of medical staff, including asking those who have recently left to return to help cope with the pandemic. He told The Guardian: “The longer this epidemic goes on for, if doctors feel that there is a widespread lack of personal protective equipment, then some doctors may feel they have no choice but to give up the profession they love because they feel so abandoned by not being given the PPE that the World Health Organisation recommends. Dr Parmar’s comments come after Matt Hancock promised a “military effort” to get equipment to health and social care workers. On Tuesday, the Health and Social Care Secretary announced that a new hotline had been set up that staff can call if they are running low on supplies. He said that 7.5 million pieces of protective equipment, including face masks, had been shipped out to frontline workers in the past day. During the daily Downing Street briefing on coronavirus, Mr Hancock said: “Many, many people across the NHS are asking for more personal protective equipment (PPE). “If people are working on the frontline to look after us, it is vital that we look after them.” At this difficult time for frontline doctors and nurses, sign up here to show your support now to our brave NHS Heroes. And in the late 1980s, when it first appeared on American soil, one United States Army researcher was at the forefront of keeping it from infecting the populace. That researcher was Lt. Col. Nancy Jaax, and The Hot Zone — the National Geographic Channel miniseries based on Richard Preston’s bestseller — is her story. In a moment, we’ll want to hear what you thought of The Hot Zone‘s two-hour premiere. (Parts 2 and 3 will air Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, at 9/8c.) But first, a quick recap: The premiere opens in Kenya in 1980, where a man who is very ill boards a plane, vomits a lot of bloody matter into an airsick bag, and eventually winds up in a hospital where the medical staff wonder to themselves, “Is it the new disease?” It is, and that disease is caused by a pathogen that eventually is classified as a Level 4 biohazard (translation: super deadly). When the action jumps to the end of the decade, we see that the virus — Ebola — is being kept under very close watch at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Ft. Detrick in Maryland. When a diseased monkey organ arrives at Nancy’s lab from a nearby private animal-testing facility, she and her co-workers think it’s probably evidence of simian hemorrhagic fever — deadly for animals, but not a threat to humans. But upon closer inspection, Nancy starts to suspect that something more dangerous is afoot. After a sequence explaining the intricacies of how to suit up for a Biosafety Level 4 lab (hint: There are a lot of steps and layers), Nancy notices that the sample she’s looking at isn’t just destroyed: It’s like the cells are “exploded,” she notes to a lab newbie who’s accompanying her. But before she can test to see whether the sample she’s got is Ebola, which kills 90 percent of its victims, she notices that’s she’s bleeding from the hand and has to “crash” exit the facility. Oops. There’s a harrowing bit when the frozen dead animals, which are only contained in garbage bags, start melting and leaking out the back of her trunk. But Nancy manages to buy some bleach, perform a thorough cleaning on the side of the road and get back in the vehicle before the local police show up to see what’s going on. Back at USAMRIID, Nancy’s lab privileges have been revoked, but a co-worker named Peter (played by That ’70s Show‘s Topher Grace) agrees to sneak her in. He’s got a vested interest, you see: When he scoffed at her worry over the sample, he and another colleague took a deep sniff of it, and now he’s worried that Ebola is colonizing all over his body. Eventually, Nancy confirms that the illness they’re looking at is Ebola Zaire. “There’s no cure, no vaccine,” she tells the head of the private lab (played by House‘s Robert Sean Leonard), who reluctantly agrees to let her into his facility to check on another primate that’s exhibiting symptoms of the disease. But Nancy needs backup, so she calls her mentor Wade Carter (played by Game of Thrones‘ Liam Cunningham), who comes out of retirement when he hears that the virus — which has vexed him his entire professional life — has made its first appearance in America. Back in Maryland, Wade and Nancy euthanize the sick monkey, but Wade is sure that the private facility is hiding something. Afterwards, once Jerry realizes everything that’s been going on, he is very angry that Nancy could’ve put their kids at risk by transporting the monkeys in the family car — not to mention how dangerous it is for her to be working so closely with a virus that’s so horrible. They argue. Later, Wade shows up at Nancy’s house: He snuck back into the private facility and found another sick animal in a different cell. “We didn’t catch it in time,” he says gravely. “Who knows how far it’s spread?” And now it’s your turn. What did you think of Night 1 of The Hot Zone? Grade the two-hour premiere via the poll below, then hit the comments with your thoughts! Got 90 seconds to spare? Then you have enough time for a quick trip to The Twilight Zone. CBS All Access has released a full trailer for its upcoming revival of the sci-fi classic, which gives us our first unsettling look at the new episodes. Though the teaser (embedded above) doesn’t reveal a whole lot of plot details, it does feature a bevy of famous faces in various stages of confusion and distress (which is the default setting in this dimension). Among the TV stars spotted in the video: Silicon Valley‘s Kumail Nanjiani as a man who “changed something, erased something” in his life, The Affair‘s Sanaa Lathan as a woman who’s been thoroughly spooked and Room‘s Jacob Tremblay as a young man who is somehow caught up in the world of politics. The trailer also includes a few Easter eggs for fans of the original series. Parks and Recreation‘s Adam Scott, for example, will star in an episode titled “Nightmare at 30,000 Feet” — and at the 21-second mark in the trailer, you can spot the same gremlin that appeared in the iconic 1963 installment, “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” which starred William Shatner. Rounding out the teaser is executive producer Jordan Peele, who makes a brief appearance as the revival’s host and narrator. (And he’s wearing a suit of which Rod Serling would certainly approve.) The Twilight Zone will kick off with a two-episode premiere on Monday, April 1. New installments will then drop weekly on CBS All Access beginning Thursday, April 11. Watch the revival’s full trailer above, then hit the comments with your initial thoughts! RELATED STORIES
PART THREE: THE MADWOMAN IN THE OXYGEN TOWER | Janet calls Chantal, a stargazing shaman, and tells her she thinks she’s been abducted. Chantal tells her to resist gravity, which sparks an idea. She tethers herself to a chair, but when night falls, she once again floats toward the window and outside, where three aliens watch her. They look like a mix between Conehead wannabes and the martians from Mars Attacks!, and to make matters even stranger, they all speak simultaneously, without any mouth movement whatsoever.leader “supervisor.” K.
The being then says that Janet only wants something she doesn’t have. “We can see your wanting from space,” it says. Then it clicks. The being must know what the egg is; in fact, the supervisor laid all of the eggs, so that everything could be OK again. OK forever. And that’s because there won’t be any human beings around to change their minds about it. We then watch Mrs. Jones collapse off-screen as a glittery, bloody substance spreads throughout her home like a gas.

For a quarter of a century, water, land and ethnic conflicts have poisoned ties between the five ’stans. Now, even as the U.K. pulls away from the European Union, and other countries in the bloc mull their future in it, Central Asian nations are opening up to one another, taking steps to establish what in a few years could amount to their version of a Schengen zone.
In March, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan abolished a strict visa regime that was a relic of their differences since the Tajik Civil War (1992–1997) and subsequent tensions over the Rogun hydropower project that Tashkent fears could lead to a water shortage for Uzbekistan. People can now travel between the two countries without visas.
Then in mid-September, the first deputy prime ministers of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on the mutual recognition of visas that will effectively allow future tourists the possibility of visiting both countries if they have either’s visa. Officials of the two nations are working toward finalizing a date to launch the project. Kazakhstan has invited Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey to join the project, which Kazakh senator Dariga Nazarbayeva, a daughter of President Nursultan Nazarbayev, has dubbed the “Silk Road visa.” Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have expressed interest in signing on to this regional visa arrangement. And even Turkmenistan, the most closed of the Central Asian nations that has not yet shown any interest in this, is now showing signs of a thaw toward its neighbors. Its president, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, visited Tashkent in April, signaling a shift in previously tense relations.
It is a revolution.
Farkhad Rasulev, CEO, Dolores Travel Services
Driving many of these initiatives is Uzbekistan’s new reformist leader, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who has made better relations with neighbors the centerpiece of his foreign policy agenda. But a history of economic struggles since independence and a geography that means all five of the ’stans are landlocked — Uzbekistan twice over — are also coalescing into a realization that regional integration is less a choice and more of a necessity, experts argue.
“I think that it is a revolution!” says Farkhad Rasulev, a CEO of Dolores Travel Services, one of Uzbekistan’s biggest tourist companies, referring to the Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan visa agreement. “We were waiting for the last 15 years.”

The moves Central Asian nations have made this year are still only baby steps, with no guarantee of long-term success, caution experts. These moves at regional integration may also spark alarm in Moscow, where President Vladimir Putin has pulled Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Armenia together with Russia to form a customs union called the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). But while the EEU, formed in 2014, aims to facilitate trade between member states, it has no plans to turn the region into a common visa zone. On the other hand, strengthened integration among the Central Asian republics might leave them less vulnerable to China’s growing influence there — an outcome Russia would welcome.
Turkmenistan’s support for the visa-free norms the other four ’stans are edging toward remains unclear. Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan still have to formally sign on to the Uzbek-Kazakh plan for a Silk Road visa. And Azerbaijan and Turkey, invited by Kazakhstan to join the project, are yet to formally respond.
“I don’t think it is a beginning of a regional integration,” says Rafael Sattarov, a Central Asia analyst with the Carnegie Moscow Center. At the moment, he says, a “few persons” are driving regional cooperation, but there’s no guarantee “that they will not make a U-turn in the middle of the road.” More than political ties, Central Asia needs stronger economic integration along the lines of Europe and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and that needs patience, he says. To truly integrate with the other Central Asian republics, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan would also need to leave the EEU, and there are “very small chances” they’ll do that, he argues.
But officials working on the proposals to strengthen easy travel in the region suggest that they’re willing to remain patient. The agreement with Kazakhstan is only the “start of a process,” an Uzbek government official says, requesting anonymity. The many questions that emerge from that agreement — for instance, how Uzbekistan will treat guests from countries with visa-free arrangements with Kazakhstan — will now be answered, one at a time, he says.
It’s no surprise that Uzbekistan is leading the move toward regional integration. It is the region’s most populous nation, and its leader is riding on a wave of popularity over a series of reform measures that have opened up the country to the outside world. Uzbekistan also has the most to lose without integration — Liechtenstein is the only other country in the world that is doubly landlocked. But its size and clout make the efforts it has started with its neighbors this year that much more realizable.
For the region, the current border regime is a “real nightmare” that needs to go, suggests Madyarov, the producer. It’s often disorganized and frequently descends into a “fight without rules,” he says. “I dream about a day when [borders] will be destroyed in Central Asia.”
There are also clear gains from softer borders for the individual nations. The agreement between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will drive more tourism to both nations, suggests Rasulev, since visitors can go to both on one visa. The business of “tourism is big in Kazakhstan, and all foreigners will [now] want to see historical landmarks of Uzbekistan too,” he says. In July 2018, Uzbekistan introduced $ 20 electronic visas for visitors from 101 countries as part of its efforts to promote tourism.
And the future, in many ways, only needs to learn from the past. For 70 years under the Soviet Union, there were no border posts separating the Central Asian republics, and people could move between them with relative freedom. After a quarter century of barbed wire and concrete posts dividing them, the region wants to return to that Central Asian “Schengen” they once had — without the authoritarianism of a communist state.

Baskut Tuncak, the UN’s special rapporteur on hazardous substances, criticized the Japanese government’s decision to resettle citizens in areas with radiation levels above one millisievert per year, the threshold of health risk to groups particularly sensitive to radiation, including children and women of childbearing age.
“The gradual lifting of evacuation orders has created enormous strains on people whose lives have already been affected by the worst nuclear disaster of this century,” he said.
Tuncak presented his findings to a General Assembly committee meeting in New York. “Many feel they are being forced to return to areas that are unsafe, including those with radiation levels above what the government previously considered safe,” he added in a news release.
The Japanese government dismissed his concerns, blaming one-sided information and expressing concern that the statement could stoke “unnecessary fears” about the site of the March 2011 nuclear disaster.
After the earthquake and subsequent power plant meltdown, the Japanese government raised its acceptable radiation levels to 20 millisieverts. The UN last year issued a recommendation to return the level to pre-meltdown standards, but Japan ignored the request.
Over seven years later, radiation levels around Fukushima remain high, as has the apparent level of denial within the Japanese government. They recently announced plans to release about a million tons of wastewater contaminated with radioactive elements into the Pacific Ocean, claiming high-tech processing had reduced the contaminants to safe levels, but was forced to admit that 80 percent of the water remained contaminated after local residents protested the dumping plans.
The government has been removing evacuation orders gradually and plans to repeal all of them within five years, regardless of the contamination level in the areas. Japan was slow to enact the evacuation orders initially – only residents within a 3km radius of the meltdown were told to evacuate immediately after the accident, and four days later, residents 30km away were still being told to shelter in place. However, it was already allowing resettlement in areas within 20km of the plant by 2014.
Tuncak has clashed with the Japanese government before. In August, he and two other UN human rights experts criticized them for putting at risk the lives of those involved in the Fukushima clean-up. An earlier UN report showed that 167 plant workers had received radiation doses that increased their cancer risk.
Only last month did the Japanese government admit that even a single plant worker had died as a result of radiation exposure. The unnamed man, whose job included measuring radiation levels immediately after the meltdown, was exposed to about 195 millisieverts of radiation and developed lung cancer after leaving his job in 2015.
