Despite much controversy, Madonna performed at the Eurovision Song Contest’s Grand Final in Tel Aviv, Israel this evening.

The 60-year-old took to the stage wearing a black cape and an eye patch to perform one of her most iconic hits, Like A Prayer, and her latest single Future with Quavo.

Ahead of her performance, it was revealed her rehearsals had been closed and no one knew what to expect when she took to the stage.

And, it is fair to say that many of those watching were not impressed with Madonna’s Song Contest routine and took to Twitter to slam her performance.

“OMG! Madonna is BUTCHERING her own song! How did this happen? #Eurovision,” one viewer tweeted.

Another added: “Madremia Madonna, what a embarrassment.”

A third asked: “Is this the funeral of Madonna’s career? #Eurovision.”

“Oh dear God Madonna the voice is gone. Ouch. #Eurovision,” someone else shared.

Another went on to score her performance Eurovision-style, tweeting: “Zero points to Madonna. #ESC2019 #eurovision.”

However, not everyone was unimpressed with one fan sharing: “Ok. That was pretty spectacularly staged. I would’ve loved her to do Future first, but Like A Prayer was tremendous.

“She’s got a lower register now but was very nervous. Even though she’s Madonna. Would’ve preferred Medellín but hey ho. She’s my queen. Love love love. #eurovision.”

Before her performance, Madonna told tonight’s hopefuls: “You are all winners, I say that because to get here, you had to have a dream and you had to believe in that dream and make a lot of sacrifices.”

Going on to address why Eurovision is so important, she said: “Another really obvious statement is look at all the delegates behind us, everyone here is from all over the world.

“The thing, the one thing that brings me to those countries and the one thing that brings all these people here tonight is music.

“Let’s never underestimate the power of music.

“So to quote an amazing song, music makes the people come together, yeah.”

Ahead of tonight’s Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final, Netherlands were the favourite to take the top prize.

Duncan Laurence found himself at just 8/11 with the bookies to be crowned as tonight’s Eurovision winner in Tel Aviv.

Australia’s act Kate Miller-Heidke, who performed Zero Gravity, looked to be the closest rivals of the Dutch at 11/2.

Unfortunately it was bad news for the UK the odds Michael Rice finishing in last place were at just 4/1.

Will Ferrell will always have a special place in Christmas schedules thanks to the enduring appeal of the wonderful Elf. However, his latest release, out in UK cinemas, is more of a Christmas turkey than a cracker. The comedy retelling of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson has pulled in some of the worst reviews of the year and currently sits with the unenviable dishonour of the worst possible rating on Rotten Tomatoes. These reviews are no laughing matter. The mystery worthy of the great detective himself seems to be how two cinematic comedy stars managed to make something so utterly unfunny.

New York Times: “More laughs are all that would have been necessary to prevent the stagnation of Holmes & Watson; as the movie stands, smuggling in booze to dispel the sense of dull routine could only help. Sony sneaked this parody into theatres on Christmas without screenings for critics, normally evidence that the film in question is less than the work of a mastermind.”

AV Club: “Might be the worst feature-length film ever made about the “consulting detective” from Baker Street.”

Film Pulse: “So defiantly humourless that it seems to punish any small amount of laughs by doubling down on every joke, reducing them to childishly annoying at best.”

The Hollywood Reporter: “Making their previous vehicles Step Brothers and Talladega Nights seem the height of comic sophistication by comparison, Holmes & Watson features the duo parodying Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous characters to devastatingly unfunny effect. Numerous talented British thespians are wasted in supporting roles in this Christmas turkey that, not surprisingly, wasn’t screened in advance for critics. 

“Despite being filmed entirely in England and at numerous historical locations, Holmes & Watson boasts such ersatz-looking visuals that it may as well been shot entirely on sound stages. The overall shoddiness is typical of this feeble sendup that doesn’t even manage to be as funny as the recent Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr versions.”

Indiewire: “The only compelling mystery about “Holmes & Watson” is how so many funny people have been squeezed into such an unfunny movie, a movie that isn’t nearly smart enough to recognize how stupid it should have been.”

Solzy at the Movies: “Holmes and Watson is a brutal cinematic disgrace and a stain to the legacy of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s literary detective, Sherlock Holmes.”

Hyperinflation destroys purchasing power of money and encourages hoarding of goods, as people and businesses wait for further price increases. When there is a loss of confidence in a currency’s ability to maintain its value, sellers demand a risk premium to accept the currency; they do this by raising their prices.

Russia faced hyperinflation after the collapse of the Soviet Union, while the economic crisis in Zimbabwe made the country ditch its domestic currency in 2009 in favor of the US dollar and other stable currencies.
